I bought a 16-inch ball for my boys when they were little. In 2002 we had a family reunion in Ohio--and played ball with a 16-incher, "Chicago Softball." What a hoot, and what fun. The O'Neil clan used to have the annual picnic at Pottawatomie Park, then Phillips Park. ALWAYS we played softball. I never used a glove until I went to school in Saint Louis. No 16-inch balls there.

My cousin and my sister attended Visitation. We lived in the Byrne Building in 1955, then moved to 837 West Garfield, next to the empty yard next to the rectory. I attended Quigley for 1955-1960. During summers I worked at the school, with JOE FONTANA, and painted classrooms and sealed floors. I learned a good trade.

I do not remember that store. We were pretty insulated. But I remember Peter Mendoza, my playmate--and chocolate milk at school. :o)
