In my neighborhood on the southwest side, they came down the alleys. I also remember a produce vendor, driving slowly along, calling out "Straaaaw-Berrieeees".

As a kid, I went to the Highland at 79th and Ashland. Also, occasionally, the Capitol at 79th and Halsted (where the ceiling was designed to look like the night sky) and the Beverly at 95th and Ashland. I remember that there were several theater chains - on of them was Balaban & Katz.

I was in the Boy Scouts in the early 60's, and I remember spending a cold winter night in a cabin at Dearborn. Our troop didn't usually camp in the winter, so this was notable. I can't remember much detail, except that there was snow on the ground.
