There was a grocery store at 60th and S Hamlin called Phils. He was a great butcher and a little grocery store at 59th Hamlin NW corner anyone remember?

Does anyone remember Carr's ice cream at about 60th and Kedzie. Terrific malts-I'm talking 1950's.Across from Gerties was the Pioneer Tavern and a cigar shop on the corner and Jim's coins on the other side.I lived at 58th and Springfield from 1940-1969, Marquette theater 25 cartoons for a quarter. I bought a 1995 olds Cutlass from Thompson Olds, good car. I bought a brand new 1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440 at a Dodge dealership on south Western around 7000 south, can't think of the name. I wish I had that car now.

There were good restaurants down there,Armandos, Adolphs,Chez Paul. Milanos on State/Division open all nite.The Oak Tree at Rush/Oak. BBC-Bombay Bicycle Club. Mr. Kellys-saw Dick Kavett, Chad Mitchell in the 1960's. You could eat at Mammys or Cartons all day.

I worked at Hillmans Food, along with my brothers at 43 and Pulaski.That was their warehouse.They had stores at 95th and Jeffrey, Oak Lawn and in the basement of Sears at 63rd and Halsted.They went out of business in 1982. My wife worked at Eagle Foods at 87 and Harlem in Bridgeview.They went out of business in 2001.Hi Lo store was at 57th and S Pulaski and Kroger at 59 th and Pulaski.

Anyone remember Santucci's on about 6000 s cicero. A parking lot for Midway is there now. Little Joes at 63rd and California. Nick and Vitos at 84th and Pulaski. Palermos is good. Pizzeria Due and Uno have changed, not as good as the70's
