Madaj Drugs, northwest corner of Addison and Lavergne. closed in the 60's. Bruce & Ken Drugs had 2 locations at Harlem & George St. and Addison & Neva. Marzullo Drugs on Grand Ave and Johnson Drugs at Grand and Thatcher in River Grove. Schmidt Drugs at North Ave. & Austin Ave.

There was a picnic grove called Harms Park at the northwest corner of Western Ave. & Berteau Ave. There is a car dealer there now and newer homes in back. There was an article about it here on Forgotten Chicago a while back.

There was a 'Polk Bros' at Grand & Thatcher in River Grove. It was torn down in 1970 to build an addition to River Grove School. There was also Palm Ace Hardware & Appliances down the street at 8324 W Grand Ave. They had lots of cool neon signs, much like Polk Bros. I wish someone had some early pictures of that area.

There was an "Andies Candies" at Belmont & Cicero in the 1960's. I went there for ice cream as a child. It became a Fannie May in the mid 60's. Now it is a currency exchange.

'The Red Steer' Matchbook

I grew up in River Grove in the 60's and 70's It became the 'Thirsty Whale' in the early 70's. Before that it was called 'The Red Steer'. It had a big fiberglass steer on the canopy over the enterance. I have seen a photo of it in the 1920's, it was then called 'Ottos'.
