Yea, Faces.. The guy who owned Faces opened a place called Narcisse about ten years ago. Its gone now too but It was copied in North Scottslale. Some guys just know how to put a club together. Hey, do you remember Manhattan? Rush and Ceder? Cigarette girls with pill box hats and little frilly tutu skirts? I think that was my favorite, but it dident last long.

Pretty good! The animal waste was dumped into the "south branch of the Chicago river" by the soap factory right there on the bank. That horse/pig animal waste left over from soap rendering would simk and over time, release methane bubbles. My family ran the tavern right across from there. The fire was on the bak of the river, one block south of 33rd st, an old trainers caused an

I worked at Michael Reese Hospital in the nineties and used to eat at Gladys's frequently with my friend, Dr Willie Wilson (who is now running for Mayor of Chicago, BTW). He introduced me to Ms Gladys and I spoke with her many times. Unfortunately, she became quite ill and died. The restaurant was sold to a very nice woman in her thirties (I met her but sorry, can not remember her name). The

When I was a kid my uncle had a house built at 57th and Keeler, he called it "the new subdivision". Across the streets to the south and west were just open mud fields, there was nothing there and it indeed looked like a new subdivision. This was the late fifties.

Yep, all true. It was very bad there, speaking as a hospital professional who grew up in the area and knew the place. But there were many for profit little hospitals in Chicago. There is another post here about the two DeMoon hospitals (one now called Sacred Heart is in the news right now after being closed down by the Feds for some very bad allegations) and there was one in the Trendy near n

Hi old Neighbors and friends. Scott here from 46th and Whipple! The best thing to remember about the Big Store was the STAMPS!! LOL! God, I remember filling books of those damn purple stamps with my mom at the kitchen table! And if you were sent there to pick up something, like a new window shade, or a lace Curtis panel, or a cooking utensil or just about anything else you can think of, the

My grandfather operated one at 33rd and Troop in Bridgeport, across from "bubbly creek". It had a phone booth at the back where one wall of the booth had a spring hinge that was a secret door to let you into the speak in the back. Dad and Auntie's told me the story of riding with their father in a big old Cadillac on Sunday's down to Capone's still to pick of five gallon cans of moon

I watched the Pope's Grant Park event from a high rise facing the park and took photos...it was an amazing crowd. I also was a student at Five Holy Martyrs in the early sixties. our pastor was Aux. bishop Alfred Abramowicz, the roommate in Poland at the seminary with Karol Woltwa - aka Pope John Paul ii. "Crazy Father Karol" as some of us very young students called him, should spe

He also owned a place called "Winslow's" on 33rd and Troop in Bridgeport that was in my family until it closed. That was a speakeasy during prohibition.

WSDM -"smack dab in the middle" was the precursor. I used to be enthralled by Yvonne Danials "den of Daniels" show at 8pm in the sixties, sooo sexy! I met her and told her so before she died. BTW, I owned the house that had been owned by the president of Chess Records on 51st and Greenwood in Kenwood. I took a year rebuilding it, when I bought it, the third floor was full

Ramsey also played at "George's" on Kinzie in the 70's, I had a BD there with him playing. That place is still a club and cool to the Millinials, called "Guilt Bar" now. I was smiling when my two adult boys told me that they were frequenting one of my old places! What about the Gaslight Club? I was a member there. BBC on rush? Sweetwater? Those were 70's places. Opened and operated by the DeMoon brothers, Pat and I don't recall the other. They owned a second hospital on the north side that was sold, renamed and called Sacred Heart most recently. That facility is in the news now for some bad allegations and was closed down by the government last year.

I was the CEO of the hospital from 1995 until 2000. The campus was over 53 acres with 27 seperate buildings, the Emergency department was two blocks away from the main radiology department and surgeries. There was one, massive heating plant for all buildings on the campus and steam heat was piped all over the fifty plus acres. The complex was connected by an elaborate underground tunnel system t

I have a clear childhood memory of a show boat, docked near downtown and I think the name was "Sherry S" but I'm not sure. It was the late fifties or early sixties. Can anyone remember more? Google searches have not turned up anything.... Thanks
