Starting a new thread with the hopes that you will share your memories of these two great neighborhoods that have a lot of history. On 103rd street who remembers the Chicago incinerator at 103rd & Doty or Gately's stadium (still there) at 103rd & Cottage Grove, The Chicago Pumping Station at 103rd & Princeton, Hi-Lo at 103rd and Yale, Van der Meers coal yard at 103rd & Eggleston

Does anyone remember Flash Gordon being on? I think it was WGN on Sunday mornings. The "Clay People" would always creep me out. You couldn't protect yourself 'cause they would just come out of the wall before you knew it. And they also had at one time The Lone Ranger, Superman (already mentioned above), The Cisco Kid, and Mighty Mouse (Here I Comne To Save The Day). Along with ever

Went to one of those roller derby matches in the 70's also. Also saw Jethro Tull and Kansas there. And when I was just a kid in the early 60's dad took the whole family there several different times to see the rodeos they used to

I think most neighborhoods had them. Ours did too. They might have been a franchise. At the same time we still received our dairy products at our front porch door (this was still into the 60's), Had a fruit and vegetable man who would drive his truck down the neighborhood streets and sell you fresh fruits and vegetables from the back of the truck, had a guy who would come around a couple of tim

Not exactly high cuisine but does anyone remember "The Forum". It was a cafeteria style eatery downtown I remember not far from the Randolph St Station. The food was in vending machine type slots in the wall and you would put the correct amount of change in the coin slot and the door would open and you would remove the item. Last time I was there was in the late 60's and it's long gon

While I was driving downtown on the near south side several years ago, I came across a section of the street that was about to be re-paved. That machine they use to scrape off the top layer had already been there and exposed what was hidden beneath...the original brick-paved street and the original street car tracks. They never removed any of that when they first re-surfaced the street after asp
