As a police officer I went on calls to quite a few of those "mothers-in-law houses" was what I've heard them called. I specifically remember a few on the 8700 block of south Escanaba on the west side of the street.

On 103rd street, just east of Vincennes, across from Julian HS, there was a post office right by Brennan's Meat Market. The building was many things, now abandonded, it still say's United States Post Office across the top. That's where we all got our social security cards and went to read the wanted posters.

I was at Merrimac and Belmont today at a burger place on the corner (amazing BTW). We were seated outside where the area was enclosed by iron gates. There were a pair of iron entrance gates on the Merrimac side which were monogrammed in "H" and "B". We asked the employees what they stood for and nobody knew. I'm assuming a bar or restaurant of some kind. I told my friend I

I bought a commercial building in downtown South Haven, Michigan several years ago and after studying the history of the building I found that it was built in 1914 by a man named Durkee (which I also find an usual surname)in which he opened a store named Durkee's Grocery. I've never been able to find much else about it or him except it's closing about ten yrs later.

I worked at Red's Drive-in, a very popular burger place on 111th St. just west of Western. The parking for Beverly Art Center now occupies the spot. My sister's worked around the corner at Jumbo Dog on Western at about 11045 south. CVS now occupies that spot.

We've been told that for a while a street somewhere near Bridgeport was called Ambrose St. It was so-called, allegedly, for my great-grandfather, Robert Ambrose, A Chicago firefighter that died in the line of duty. We know that part is true because he received the Carter-Harrison Award and it still hangs in the Chicago Fire Academy. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

a "y" is a symbol of Chicago, representing the river split downtown. Never heard of a V.
