awesome story. if you go to google street view and look at the ne corner of thst intersection, you'll see three black things laying in the street. bags or....robes? in any case, the property at that corner looks very overgrown and old, you can't even see the house in there.

in the early 70's my ma worked at the holiday inn on LSD and often she would take me around that area for whatever. i swear i remember seeing a restaurant around there where the entrance was a giant fish's head, and you would walk thru the giant gaping fishmouth to get in. anyone recall this place, or the name?? please tell me it wasn't a dream.

there was a small, triangle-shaped business district around 62nd and cicero. two streets ran about a block east of cicero at a 45 degree angle to form the triangle. there was a jewelry/watch shop with a green neon sign, a small greasy spoon cafe, a junk shop, a newsagents and a couple other things.

i love reading things like this. i lived right on winnemac off broadway in the 90s. the drugstore must have been where the 20 story office building now is. totally different situation now although it is re-gentrifying (i don't know if this would be considered an improvement or a sterilisation, though..)

this is the closest thing i could find, from the "Cinema Treasures" website: I took dancing lessons in the studio above the Tiffin in 1953 at Mrs Marches' Dance Studio--Tap, Ballet and Acrobatic. Her son played the piano for the classes, and later went on to be a stage actor in musicals.

WOW. thanks for memories of a place i haven't been in since about 1982. i totally forgot about those round, carpet-covered seats by the locker area. i got my first kiss at this place. it was nothing short of mediocre!
