Here's a thread about the Buffalo: http://forgottenchicago.com/forum/1/6805/buffalo_restaurant also this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/gwendeanne/7071935605/ Just yesterday I was at a graduation party with a friend & his Dad worked at Buffalo in the early 70s. My friend said he spent a lot of time there with his Dad and the basement was always flooded, which his Dad confirmed. There w

A bit more info on Kaufman's from a story in the Tribune in 1981 when the stores were lining up a unnamed buyer (I found no further mention in the Trib archives of who bought them) Founded 1921, located 2775 N Milwaukee by late 40s. Originally menswear, ladies apparel added later, by the time of the movie to Kimball & Diversey (circa 1949) strictly women's wear.

Kaufman's was described as a woman's apparel store in a 4/11/64 Tribune story about them opening a store on Michigan Avenue. Here's a link but you have to scroll down all the way thru the want ads to get to section 2, page 7-the link takes you 1B, page 7: Kaufman's Picks Site on Michigan Av. another story from 1949 about the store moving calls it a men's and women's apparel dealer: Apparel Deal

Margie's is still owned by her family. There's a second Margie's on Montrose right by the el tracks. I worked at Bargain Town one Christmas-people were animals. It got so bad that we would just yell "Coming through!" and haul the flatbeds full of stock out of the back regardless of where people were standing. They wouldn't move otherwise.

It's from 1962 but the Mattel Vac-U-Form was pretty cool. It molded plastic sheets into various things. When you plugged it in the lights in the room dimmed. As I recall it was about the size of a car battery and weighed almost as much.

The Warren Beatty movie "Mickey One" has scenes filmed in a restaurant across the street from the Woods Theatre. "The Cardinal" was playing at the time.

The Diana Ross movie "Mahogany" filmed quite a few scenes at Marshall Field's on State, many of them in employee only areas, not sure if the tubes are seen but you should check it out. The movie is beyond terrible but the Field's scenes are at the beginning so you don't have to sit through the whole thing. I worked at State Street briefly circa 1979. They hired a bunch of teens to put t

At the end (may have been Tower by that point"Rose had three full floors of music, escalators and an elevator. 3rd floor was movie soundtracks, broadway cast albums, older pop music-Sinatra, etc. and the like. Classical was on the second floor for a long time. Don't remember where the jazz was-maybe on the third floor. The set up was quite different in the early 70s when I first shopped there

You can see quite a bit of late 60s Old Town in a movie filmed here called "The Young Runaways" (1968) with Richard Dreiyfuss. It isn't on home video, TCM used to show it years ago but not recently. Young Runaways at imdb clips on youtube but I don't know if they include the Wells St scenes.

The tv show Shameless filmed there not too long ago. I was surprised to see it pop up as a filming location on one of the episodes-it didn't look that far gone. The Rosenwald & Marshall Field apartments were, if memory serves, privately financed experiments in low-income housing, paid for by wealthy businessmen.

Has anyone seen these for sale this year? Anise flavored cookie with red or green sugar sprinkled on them. I tried Food 4 Less (where I've gotten them before-Mrg said they hadn't received any yet this year) and Jewel in Evanston. When I asked at Jewel a nice lady standing nearby told me she's on the lookout as well and she didn't find them at Walmart or Target either. Keebler bought the name Jingl

I lived on Augusta Blvd at the time and remember seeing no parking signs that mentioned Crime Story being filmed. Right down the street from the Polish museum heading west. There was a Texaco station with an original sign at Noble & Augusta. I didn't see any actual filming for that but I did see them filming at Div-Ash-Mil on the north side of Mil in front of Slodkowski's (I think that was the

A guy named Lonski was still living on Goose Island well into the 1980s. He had a restaurant/tavern, Lonski's Inn, there-I think he lived upstairs. There was a sign for it on Division on the side of a building in the early 1980s. This Trib story mentions him and his tavern: Trib Story
