Does anybody remember the drug store on 65th. and Morgan, My grandfather owned it ,from mid 20ies to 1940. It was a two story building,he raised his family up stairs. I recall stories from my father and uncles. The name of it was Basiles Drugs,The building is long gone,but you still can purchase drugs on that corner

6500 s. Western Ave. Burke Ford, now Metro Ford. The body shop was on the second floor, Thay had a single elevator to get the vehice up there, It was a small shop,with a turntable against one wall to enter there spraybooth.I was up there only once,when my friend worked on my Chrysler K car,back in the 80ies. Extra Extra! Timmy Long Gets Hit In The Face With A Pie!!! Long Chverlet, ran commercials wth the ouners son as a paper boy. The pper would have the sales pitch as headlines. One of the later ones, he holds up a paper, advertising timmy gets hit with a pie. Then thay wacked him with a whip cream pie.That how you get into the family business,kid.

when I was a kid about 1969 the loafers were the big guys of the neighborhood.Thay would play fast pitch baseball ,in St. Marys parking lot. Do you remember the batters boxes painted on the brick wall of the church?

I went to st Marys of Mt Carmel , and was n 8th grade in 1972. What a great neighborhood. My brother and I had a newspaper route from 67 th. and Marshfield to 69th. and Paulina ave. We were also alter The church had the bell on the south end of the church, near the rectory. We would have to pull a red chain to ring it.We moved there from st sibinas in 1967. I remember the corner yard, on 68th and wood, the name in the backwall of the landscaped structure was Calzertta. I was in 4th gread at St. Marys of Mt Carmel. My dad would take us with him when he would walk our dog.there was a small store across from the rectory in the mid 60ies it was called Louie Capps. the yard to thesouth had a foutin in it filled with goldfish.We would walk to Sears on 64t

Do you Remember Basiles Barber Shop? It was on Pulaski Ave. 10600 Southside. John Basile was my uncle. My God Father. He loved to intertain people, which made being a barber so natural for him. I always suspected he wished he made it to hollywood. Growing up in the 70,s his meterial was sharp , with lots of old time nostalgia.

we lived on 79th & Elizibeth, Bulko gas station on the corner, vacant lot, ben franklin dime stoe,and a drug stor on the corner of Racine. There was a grocery store a few blocks west called Seymores. we would park next to Granadas Funeral Home, while our ma would shop at Casios, Napels, or the butcher shop,then on the way home, rip off a fresh piece of bread thet stuck out of the grocery bag.
