Hey All, The Captcha that you must now enter to make a post defeats the spambots. Glad to see that someone was actually listening and that this great forum doesn't have to die and be replaced by an alternative. It would have been a crime to lose all the information contained on the threads here. Thank you for listening moderators and taking the necessary steps to keep the spammers at bay.

Hi All, Was out of town for the weekend. When I checked in here this morning, I see that the spam posts are gone. Any info on this? Did someone get the attention of the mods on this forum? Edit: I now see that the spam is not, in fact, gone. My morning coffee must not have kicked in.

Hi All, I'm going to keep bumping this so that those who need to see it will see it. Again, give me a week and we'll get something else going that keeps the spirit of this forum alive.

Hi All, Thanks for your input. I'm in the process of exploring the options for an alternative "Forgotten Chicago" forum. My wife is an internet site designer/marketer and the new forum will be much more flexible and user friendly than the current option. I will keep you all in the loop via this thread, but expect about a week's worth of work before the new forum is ready to fly. Secur

Months ago, I reported the spam posts that started showing up, with a warning that if the individual responsible for administering this forum didn't take action the whole site was done for. Well, today the inevitable result of ignoring all of our pleas for administrative action has occurred. It's my opinion that there is no one at the helm of this site, in which case it may behoove all of us to ta

If the owners of this site need new moderators I'm happy to volunteer. This site is an important asset and needs to be protected.

Rustymuscle - Thanks for the offer, sent you a PM. Jak - I think the story is probably true. Hanley's was, IIRC, one of the principle places for Irish music at the time, and the original Southside St Patrick's Day parade was held in Sabina's, so it makes sense that the whole thing was conceived over a couple of "jars" at Hanley's.

Here's a site which gives a 2012 rundown of what still exists and what doesn't. http://www.movie-locations.com/movies/b/BluesBrothers.html It's interesting to note that this site claims that St. Helen's was a frontage built at 18th and Normal.

Hey jak, Yup, you're right, that bar was Hanley's House of Happiness. Never would have remembered that without you. geffertz, I'm not sure about the butcher near Weiden's either. For some reason, I remember a small grocery on that block. I do remember a butcher that my mother frequented on the east side of Ashland between 81st and 82nd. I used to love going there because the floor was cov

Hey Geffertz, I remember Walgreen's and the Highland, as well. (I remember going to the Highland for a cartoon marathon where you got in for dime.) The Lampost I can't place. Was that the place on Ashland between 80th and 81st? I think there was a diner on the north side of 79th at Justine, can't remember the name. The five and dime was on the south side of 79th at the corner of Laflin and was

Hi everyone, I grew up in the 1960's around 79th and Ashland in St. Sabina's parish. It was a great place to live and a great place to be a kid. The neighborhood has changed greatly since then. As a result, I've been trying to recall all the business that were located between Ashland and Halsted and on 79th down to 87th or so. If you lived in or around St. Sabina's at that time, feel free to sh
