How about "Chic-a-go-go" on cable access. Pretty unusual and entertaining. with the " L-Train" line dance.

Yes; It's currently refered to as the 'Jungle" Up until about ten years ago it was still pretty wild with drug dealing, shootings and murders. Two prominent gangs still cultivate the area along with Triangle park. Not as bad as it use to be... but still not that good. "Welcome to the jungle" -Guns & Roses. ( no association with G & R.)

Francarmen I think you'r right. Probably closer to Kedzie (west) on the north side of the street. They use to have huge books with the songs & bands(artists) names, along with rows of records (45's) However, I can not remember if they had albums. This was in the mid-to late 60's and very early 70's. WOW.

I also remember burning the leaves, in the Ravenswood manor area. My dad always told me to be careful and not get it to close to the cars- or they would catch on fire and explode.??? I remember the fires always would be too close to the parked cars. But the smell when everyone on the block was burning them was a great memory

Great photos by your dad. There is one with one women & two men standing next to each other near a store. The man in the orange shirt appears to a have a gun tucked in his right waistband under his shirt. Great pic. I worked that are in the late 80's thru 2007. Watched the area change. intersting.

A little off the topic- but near Loyola U, there were music clubs_= HUEY's (upstairs) & Minstrels. Further north near Howard St. was a blues /rock club on the N/W corner. I forgot the name. When I was playing in bands, we played all of these clubs. In the late 70's.

I rememeber the funeral home & creamatorium (sp?) on Wilson near hermitige (sp?), by the old Ravenswood YMCA. The 'Y' is gone and I believe that the funeral home is now a residential home. It's on the Northside of Wilson just east of hermetige

The Zepher was on Wilson @ ravenswood. It was still there in 1999. I can't rememeber- some time after, that it closed. It is now an Irish Pub. In the mid-'80's there was a brutal murder there. To the best of my recollection, 3 employees were cleaning up after closing, when some unknown offenders went to Rob the place. They brought three(?) employees into the bathroom and executed them. I can not r

The factory on 18th Street is no more. In 1995, the police seized one metric Ton of cannabis, worth over $10 million dollars, from there, delivered from Mexico and disrupted a drug cartel's operations -for a while.

Does anyone rememeber an Asian diner club on Caldwell, somewhere west of the Edens, across the street from the golf course? I rememeber in the early '70s seeing a green awning coming from the front door, across the sidewalk to the parkway. I have asked numerous residents of the area, but no one rememebers it. They may have torn it down and built two raised ranches in its location.
