Aerial Photographs

Okay, I can't find it so I have to ask. Several posters have referred to, and posted, aerial photos of Chicago and suburbs that are historical in nature, that is they are from the 30's and 40's and maybe earlier. I cannot find the site for the photos. Can someone please provide it?

Thanks in advance

My go-to is the site Historic Aerials.

You have to install a .sid file plugin, but these are from 38/39

This works too (and you don't need the plugin, the photo files are jpegs):

The images are the same ones in the link provided by pjn345, but they're jpegs so you don't have to deal with .sid plugins. The images are big, too--I made a nice 17" x 22" print of my neighborhood circa 1939 from one of the aerial photos. A good resource.

To make it easier, if you look at the "Links" section of the main Forgotten Chicago website, in the category of Research Links, you'll find a link to the Historic Aerials website. Click on it and it takes you right there.

Much thanks to all, every link works. It is a bit difficult to locate specific places, but I was able to find what I was looking for, which was the suburb of Evergreen Park. Once I found Midway Airport, it was easy to track over to the area. I was able, I think, to find the house that my grandparents were having built in 1939. At least it is one of several on the same block.

Thanks again.

In addition to the Aerial Photos site, check out old postcards for sale (just google Chicago postcards or also go on ebay and do the same). A lot of these are aerial views very interesting for what's there then or what isn't.

All you have to do on the Historicaerials site is type in an address. A current pic will come up. You can then at the left select a given year and at the bottom right zoom in. Not the best quality but interesting nonetheless.

Or go to Chicago Historical... they have albums of gorgeous aerials from 1937 and 1949
