The former Hull House building at 4520 N. Beacon has been bought by a developer who plans to radically alter it, though not tear it down. He plans to removed the Leo Lerner theater and reface in brick, adding height to facilitate turning the building in to apartments (article here: http://bit.ly/1311tHr). Can someone tell me more about the building itself? I think I remember from a Forgotten Chicago tour that it is one of the few examples of built architecture from an influential Chicago professor. Thanks for any info!

A petition has been put on Change.org to save Hull House Theater that gives some background but no info on the architect per se: http://chn.ge/1bm7fVT

The only reference I can find dates it to 1966, with Bleck & Bleck as the listed architects. The firm still exists, but their website doesn't show any of the work from their archives.

Thanks so much, WayOutWardell. That's a start! It's so hard to get people to understand Modernist design much less things like great acoustics, so the more info re. the creators, the better.
