In the early 1960-1970 I lived on North Karlov Ave...a few blocks away on the corner of Bryn Mawr(sp) and Pulaski Ave was an Old Building across from a Cemetery. Our Parent said it was an Asylum...Does anyone know exactly what it was? And is there any Pictures. We use to try and climb the fence..and there were dogs that guard. And is it still there...?

Dawn,

That was the old Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium. It was shut down in the 1970's, and after sitting idle for a while, it became retrofitted into a community for elderly people, as well as providing park space (Peterson Park), a nature center, arts center, etc. There should be lots of pictures of it online. And yes, the signs stating that the site is protected by gaurd dogs are still there!
