Not Chicago per se, but...

In Franklin Park, visible from 294 around Franklin Ave, behind two white water tanks, an old Burger King sign stands. The '70s-era logo has faded to the point of being barely visible but you can still make out the word 'King' and the lower bun half. It's not an advertising billboard - it's only big enough to hold the logo.

Was there a Burger King warehouse or some such facility near there?

I grew up out there, and every summer from the time I was 16 until I got out of college, I walked into all the factories and warehouses and filled out a job application. None of them were burger king.
In fact, I think the nearest BK restaurant was a couple of miles away.

I think that what you see is an old billboard from before they put up the water tanks.

I was going to make a mother's day pilgramage to the graveyard, I will swing by and take a look.

I spoke too soon.

I drove out and looked and it clearly looked like a business sign. It is in the corner of the parking lot of what is now a "Fresh Express"

Further research indicates that there was a Distron (BK distributor) there in the mid 1980's (I was out of college and living on Wood St. by then.)

THe older style sign with the King sitting on a bun was there in the 60's.
