Rich, on the very corner of Milwaukee and Logan, I found a picture on 'What Was There' of the Logan Square Bank from 1923.

http://www.whatwasthere.com/browse.aspx#!/ll/41.927914,-87.705606/id/4627/info/details/zoom/13/

The building was built around 1899. From what I remember growing up there in the mid 1960's they were all small shops there like PK said.

I believe the bank, down the street was closed at that time. I think the name of the bank was, The Logan Square Bank. I think in moved here in 1923 from the corner. Here is a picture.

For your info, on the other side of the street there was a movie theater and some auto showrooms. The buildings were torn down when the El was expanded to Jefferson Park around 1970.

On the Logan side, the Polk has a similar assortment of tenants but it gives the bldg name as the Rainer Bldg.

Oh, that building.

I think that that has always been a "comfort station"
It isn't on the 1921 Sanborn map but it is on 1950 update as a "comfort station".
It is on the Historical Aerials back in 1938, surrounded only by grass and sidewalks.

Further research proves me right.
Trib Archives
6 Jan 1926 "APPROVE PLANS FOR 17 COMFORT STATIONS IN W. PARK SYSTEM"

Estimated cost was $6000 each, and they were expected to be self supporting through news, candy, tobacco and Ice cream stands operated in the same buildings.

Far as I can remember in the 1960's that building in the park was never opened, or at least when I was around. I am pretty sure that it was closed then.
