Hi,

I was wondering if you have any information on 1900 W. 22nd Place Row houses in Pilsen or if you can direct me on where to find information. I know they were built in late 1880's or 1890's but have not been able to find any other information.

Thanks,

You can search Cook County Assessor's Office

They were built in 1889 according to zillow. Just put that address in search and you may get that information. Polk's directory would tell who lived there.

.............they were also called "Company Houses". Possibly were initially rented to employees of McCormick Reaper Works just a short distance to the south. They were sold to private owners early on--original residents moving on to the open spaces (and suburban living) of North Lawndale.

County Assessor's Office says these houses are 2 story. They were 3 story until the sewer lines were laid on the street and backfilled, raising the street to it's present level. You can still see approximately where the original ground level was in front of each house.

Are you sure that's the right address? There are single-family detached houses at that location, not row houses.

I don't think there were any single family dwellings in that neighborhood until the 1920's Chicago style brick bungaloes filled in the few remaining open spaces. Probably everyone worked for a living.

I grew up around there - my grandfather owned 3 houses like those on 17th street.
