Well the work has been slow but steady. Things should be wrapping up before Christmas (I hope). Here's a few photos of the progress.

Of course after that there's still the organ we bought from St. James Methodist in Hyde Park which has to be installed. It's currently in Canada getting a full makeover from it's manufacturer. I'm told that it won't be fully installed and "recital ready" until late next year.

At Mass this morning, the priest mentioned that St. John's was part of the Open House Chicago tour and that they had over 500 visitors yesterday. It then occurred to me that I never came back to this thread with photos of our restoration (which more or less finished last year). There's plenty of photos of both the interior and exterior on the parish website. For some nice shots of the re-painted vaults, see the photos from Pentecost Sunday.

Old Stephen's also had a little menagerie at one time. Very beautiful little church, which I've only seen in pictures, one of the many we've lost. I was a member of St John Cantius in the late 90's and still get back a few times a year. Sadly, at present, the distance doesn't fit in with my schedule.

Wow! I just found this recent addition to our parish website. You can do a virtual tour of the entire nave and even walk up to the altar and over to the side altars. From wherever you're standing you can grab and pull the screen to look up to the vaults, down to the floor, and 180 degrees around you. If you can't actually go there, this is the best way to see how well our restoration went.
