I know this is last minute but in case anyone is interested:

"Chicagoland's Amusement Parks of the Past". Join us on Saturday January 19th at 1:00 PM at the Clearing Library, 6423 West 63rd Place, as the Clear-Ridge Historical Society welcomes local Chicago historian, photographer and internet host Edward Kwiatkowski, host of the popular Chicago area Internet transportation photo site known as 'Eddie's Railfan Page', who will present a musical photo slideshow and video presentation, spotlighting Chicago's once numerous and now long gone seasonal family owned amusement parks.

If you can remember Riverview Park in Chicago, Adventure Land in Addison Illinois, Fairlyland Amusement Park in Lyons Illinois, Playland Park in Justice Illinois, Dispensa's Kiddie Kingdom in Oak Brook Terrace Illinois, or any number of these now long gone family entertainment venues from Chicago's past, then you definitely will not want to miss this fun and very family oriented presentation. Admission is free!

For more information you can call the library 312-747-5657.

Just tonight on another part of the FC Forum I posted something about Sans Souci Gardens, an amusement park (with rides) at E 60th & Cottage Grove that closely followed the 1893 World's Fair since SCG existed from 1899-1913. Then the land was redeveloped as Midway Gardens, a year-round indoor-outdoor beer garden designed by
Frank Lloyd Wright. This existed from 1914- (one website says 1925, another one says 1929). After World War II a big apartment building was built on the site and given the same name, Midway Gardens.

Most certainly remember Riverview and Playland. Another not mentioned was Kiddyland at the corner of 95th & Pulaski. This was mostly for children as the rides were scaled down from adult size. If I remember correctly Adventureland moved across the border to Indiana and wound up with some of Riverviews old rides namely the roller coasters (Silver Streak,Fireball and Mad Mouse)
